The World's First Large-Format 3D Film
Transitions 3D, Digitally remastered from the original IMAX Large-Format
Film, highlights a century of incredible advances in transportation, technology
and telecommunications.
In a rush, the North American continent opens up through innovations - from
the birch bark canoe, steam engine railways, the telegraph, high-tech satellites
and high-definition television. Featured in the movie are the growth of commerce,
the excitement of conquering great distances, and the satisfaction of overcoming
isolation for people in vast lands. In scenes showing helicopter logging and
also a charming 3D teddy bear parade, the film celebrates both the art and technology
of cinema, skillfully interweaving incredible 3D effects.
This historical piece was produced as the first ever Large-Format 3D Movie
for the Canadian Pavilion at Vancouver’s EXPO ’86 and is now known as the
ancestor of three-dimensional entertainment as we know it.
Developed by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), this artistically-inspired
and technologically-innovative film is now available in 3D format for home viewing
in this special commemorative edition. Truly is a must-see for
any 3D or film enthusiast, watching this new DVD release of Transitions 3D is
like having a twenty-minute history lesson on the art of 3D film-making.
Included in the DVD's bonus features are original storyboard
sketches, the "Making Transitions" documentary and director Colin
Low’s unique insight into the challenges of shooting a three dimensional movie.
