LeAna Masiello interview

Currently appearing in "Camp Blood 2"

... in the part of, "Ashley Dupri". Find out about LeAna's thoughts on acting, meditation, and platform shoes...

Tell us about yourself?
I am a September baby, born on the 13th (not a Friday). I am a Virgo-gal, who is originally from Yonkers, New York, then Rockland County, a brief visit in Florida, then back to Westchester and finally the Big Apple of Manhattan. (Although, now I spend the majority of my in California)

What are your hobbies?
I enjoy music – especially that of the 70s (dance & soul). That era honored platform shoes and, being the petite package of 5’2”, I kind of enjoy putting on a pair of platforms every now and again. I am also very interested and enjoy learning about nutrition and Chinese medicine.

Name one thing you couldn’t live without?
The one think I couldn’t live without (or live fully without) would be meditation.

What was your first job?
My first job ever… I was 7 or 8 years old and pasting pictures from cards and magazines to soap, then selling them door-to-door to raise money so I could come to California.

What is your most embarrassing moment?
I don’t know if this is my most embarrassing moment, but it certainly is up there under faux pas. I was working backstage at an equity theater in upstate N.Y. There was a challenging scene change, which took place in total darkness, with an old steel fan going, on stage. This fan was dangerous and could chop off a finger or two. I had to maneuver and change things around the fan, all in the dark and in seconds (maybe I had 30 seconds, if that) So, I rushed, did the change and when I was backstage talking to the other stage hand about how challenging it was, I realized that I had one of the actors props – a cane (his character was partially paralyzed and need a cane). I had accidentally taken it off the stage (I was only supposed to move it to the top of the stairs on stage) but it was too late. Lights were up and I could hear him limping and trying to get around, while remaining fully in character. Oops!

What actresses do you look up to?
There are many actresses and performers that I admire. Karen Duffy, Lola Falana, Tina Turner, to name a few. All of them have had major obstacles in their lives that they overcame or overcome on a daily basis, through a positive attitude. I know Lola Falana is very spiritual, as well as Tina (who is Buddhist). Karen has an amazing attitude, amazing! All very inspiring.

What actor would I like to play alongside and why?
Here again, how much time do we have? There are so many. I might have to come back to this question.

How did you like working on the movie Camp Blood 2?
I enjoyed the entire Camp Blood 2 experience. My scene shot in a day. The entire cast was supportive, fun. Brad Sykes ran a very professional set. Very good experience!

Where else can we see you?
I have been studying acting for some time. I had a public service spot running nationally for two years. It promoted aids awareness (I was the yoga girl). I’ve done some other independent films here and there, but this is an exciting time for me.

What am I doing now?
Filling out this interview!

What are some of your future goals?
My future goals: Continued appreciation for my life and continued success in my creative (& all my) endeavors. I would also like to work with younger people, promoting healthy body images and self esteem.
